As author of the observed actions of preparing for the hunt through to preparing the whale for consumption, the most fulsome narrative obviously follows Jonathan. I’m interested that he also provides shorter intersecting pathways through his narrative via other ‘eyes’/photos, though they don’t have the resolved thread of his own. The ability of the viewer/user to manage the pacing and combination of elements makes this a more successful exploration than could be achieved through a straightforward documentary presentation.

Harris emphasizes the apolitical nature of his work, and I am curious to look at this in the context of the (equally apolitical?) Inuit-authored point of view about bowhead whales, and preservation attempts, for example, as documented at Isuma TV – http://www.isuma.tv/hi/en/isuma-news/inuit-celebrate-anniversary-bowhead-sanctuary-agreement

This documentary is a visual feast, with strong design components, and a sympathetic, personal, voyeuristic-style experience at its core. Looking forward to the next interactive documentary towards which you will draw our attention.
